Project Teaser: Dawn Byford on Plate & Planet Ambassador Program
Dawn Byford introduces the Plate & Planet Ambassador Program, an initiative that invites Rotarians, Rotaractors, and community members worldwide to explore how plant-rich eating can support healthier lives, a healthier planet, food security, and positive peace. Drawing on her background in plant-based cooking and nutrition and her experience with the Plant Rich Diet Task Force, Dawn highlights how something as everyday as the food on our plates connects with many of Rotary’s areas of focus, as well as the Pillars of Peace and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The Ambassador Program is welcoming and flexible—participants do not need to be plant-based or have any special expertise. Ambassadors can participate at whatever level works for them, learning and experimenting with plant-rich foods, sharing ideas with others, and inspiring change through their own example.
Participants also gain access to a global community, inspiring speakers, cooking demonstrations, quarterly meetings, recipes and resources, and project ideas they can bring to Rotary clubs and local communities. The emphasis is not on perfection or doing everything, but on helping many people take practical steps that collectively can make a difference.
For leaders looking for an approachable project that brings together health, sustainability, fellowship, education, and community action, Dawn’s Project Teaser offers a useful introduction to the Plate & Planet vision and its growing Ambassador community.
